Building a Dream: The Persimmon Ridge Story Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 42 ratings

What would it take for you to make your dreams a reality?

Most people have a vision of what they would like to do in their life or what they would like to be. For many, the reality is that we become what our circumstances allow, whether because of upbringing, schooling, life situations, or needing to earn a living. Few get to pursue their “dream” life, and sometimes those same life circumstances dictate that pursuit.

Building a Dream: The Persimmon Ridge Story shows you that a pursuit of a dream is often not the “easy road” to take. Ultimately, though, if it is what your heart desires, the pursuit becomes your life. This book tells the story of the pursuit of a dream. In reading it, you will learn:
  • Going after a dream takes full dedication to it
  • Family and friends provide critical support and must understand the pursuit
  • Finances can sometimes present an issue
  • Risk is probable and must be accepted
  • Faith in yourself and those working with you is paramount

Building a Dream shares all of the above and helps you to understand the pursuit is only half the challenge—the reality is the prize. Pursue your dreams!

Lawren Just co-founded Persimmon Ridge Golf Course with her late husband, Elmore Just, and their business partner, Jack Ridge. During the course’s construction, she was the on-site manager and go-between for the contractors, engineers, architect, Elmore, and Jack. During the past thirty-or-so years, Lawren has developed over 400 home sites in Persimmon Ridge and built a dozen homes. She has served as the principal broker of the Persimmon Tree Realty Company, as well as the certified wastewater operator and president of the PR Wastewater Treatment facility. Upon Elmore’s death in 2001, she became the president of the golf course company and oversaw all the golf course’s operations.

If you graduated in 69, 70 or 71 this is a MUST read. The story of Persimmon Ridge is told so very well. The author is the daughter of Elmore Just. She captures the emotions, happiness and sorrows of the development of this champion golf course. I remember playing in the Elmore Memorial and playing number seven in silence and placing your golf ball on his grave after you putted out. I graduated with Elmore but didn't know him personally. THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ. Bud Lane

5.0 out of 5 stars Story of dreams, loss, determination, triumph

I purchased this book yesterday for my Kindle, partly because it was written by a woman in my hometown who happened to attend the same high school that I did. I was vaguely familiar with the Persimmon Ridge story. I happened to have my Kindle in my purse while I was waiting for an appointment today, so I started reading it. I was hooked before I finished the prologue.

Lawren tells her story with vivid details, exposing the ups and downs that the Justs endured in making their dream a reality. She celebrates the accomplishments and unflinchingly tells of the setbacks and adversity that they faced. The hard work and determination eventually wins, but there are seemingly insurmountable obstacles and loss along the way.

We are building a house in Persimmon Ridge right now and I thought it would be a great coffee table book. It is so much more than that. It is an inspiring story of persistence, hard work and true family love and support. Get this book. You won’t be sorry!
