Paris Histories and Mysteries: How the City of Lights Changed the World Kindle Edition
Paris has been studied, written about, visited, loved, even adored for centuries, yet history still has questions:
- What would have happened if the contract to demolish the Eiffel Tower had been enforced and Eiffel’s lease on the land revoked?
- Who was the “Unknown Girl of the Seine” and how is she still saving people’s lives today?
- Was Gaston Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera a Gothic thriller or an investigative journalist’s account of the truth?
- And speaking of investigations, did Edgar Allan Poe—the man who invented the detective story—write the first one in Paris?
- How did an obscure third century saint and martyr inspire a worldwide network of educational institutions?
- How did death appear to people in the Middle Ages, and what happened in Paris to change our way of seeing death and dying?
- Does the alchemist Nicolas Flamel still live and walk the Earth?
Go behind the scenes to discover Paris Mysteries and Histories!

Review
"In Paris Histories and Mysteries, John Frederick fills his stories of Paris thoroughly with historical and cultural facts, which gives me a new outlook on some of the Parisian landmarks I pass by every day. He also narrates in vivid detail how these old stories still echo today through the rest of the world. It's a very entertaining and educational journey that makes me see the city I live in in a whole new light."
- Maylin Pultar, Singer/Songwriter and Film Maker (Paris)
"I've lived in Paris for more than twenty years, yet John Frederick has found a way to tantalize me from page one with his series of tales about my adopted city. If you like Daniel Boorstin's The Discoverers or Bill Bryson's work, you will appreciate Frederick's raconteur style, which meanders about the city that has exerted its extraordinary influence on the world throughout the ages.
"In the manner of a true Parisian flâneur, revealing hidden details and surprising connections to life in today's modern world, Paris Histories and Mysteries is more than a simple litany of dates and events. This book is about context, placing the reader directly 'at the scene of the crime' (literally!) in all its most delicious and gruesome details.
"So, grab a croissant and a café au lait, and be ready to explore the heights, the depths, and the heart of Europe's cultural capital-Paris!"
- Keri Chryst, Jazz Ambassador and Founder of Arts Embassy International (Paris)

About the author
John A. Frederick is—or has been—an author, poet, musician, photographer, travel guide, spiritual student, spiritual guide, father, grandfather, politician, chef, legislator, pool player, teacher, and pronoic dreamer.
His personal journey from addiction and homelessness to a life of prosperity and abundance, through the application of spiritual principles, has convinced him that it is never too late for anyone to wake up and live the life of their dreams.
He currently resides in Paris, France, with Manny and Erica, his two teacup Yorkies.
Drawing on more than thirty years of personal experience in his own life-journey, through twelve-step recovery, studying metaphysics, pastoral counseling, dream-work, prosperity teaching, and walking spiritual paths to physical healing, John has a true “rags-to-riches” story.
Starting in his teenage years, addictions slowly turned his life into one of desperation, loneliness, poverty, and hopelessness. Through the miracle of recovery and the discovery of metaphysical spiritual principles—spiritual laws that work in a practical way to heal past trauma, dissolve old ideas, and inspire new ideas and beliefs that are true and that work—John’s life made a 180° turnaround.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable combo of history, culture and travel ideas
Verified PurchaseThe author, an American who lives in Paris, has done his research but presented it as readable history made personal with interesting stories about actual people and what followed, culture of the time including odd trends. He has chosen unusual events and people , then connected them to the present . You can find out what is there to see now of the place where an event happened and how to find it. It's a book for fans of history and interesting things you don't find in history books as well as a good reference for visitors to Paris. Read it on the plane!.
